A child can start dancing as soon as they start walking. For ballroom and Latin-American dancing, the best age to start is around 5 years old. Before that, studios tend to focus more on dancing for fun and teaching basic coordination skills rather than developing real technique. Around 5-year old, most kids are able to focus longer, follow instructions and begin to learn dance routines.
Comfortable shoes, a bottle of water and clothes in which the child can move freely.
Parents can watch the first session. Then, for the child’s best growth, parents need to leave the studio. That way, children will not be shy and distracted by their parents.
